The UIDAI has announced that very soon, Aadhaar card holders will be able to update their registered mobile number from home — no need to visit an Aadhaar centre or stand in long queues. The update process will use OTP verification + Face Authentication via the new Aadhaar app, bringing convenience right to users’ smartphones.
In an official post on X.COM, UIDAI wrote:
“Coming Soon! Update Mobile number in Aadhaar from the comfort of your home -- through OTP & Face Authentication. No more standing in the queue at the Aadhaar Centre.”

The feature aims to remove the long-standing requirement of physically visiting an Aadhaar Seva Kendra (enrolment centre) for mobile number updates — a process that often involved long wait times, travel, and inconvenience.
How the New Feature Will Work
Download or update the new Aadhaar mobile app (available for Android and iOS).
Open the app and enter your Aadhaar number and the new mobile number you wish to link.
Complete OTP verification (to confirm number) + Face Authentication (to verify identity) using your smartphone camera.
Submit — update request will be processed and your Aadhaar-linked number updated without centre visit.
According to UIDAI’s public announcement, early adopters are encouraged to test the feature and share feedback via their feedback portal.
Why This Matters for Digital India & Citizens’ Convenience
The move is a big step toward making Aadhaar fully digital and user-friendly. It aligns with India’s “Digital India” vision — reducing paperwork, saving time, and increasing accessibility. For millions of Aadhaar card holders, it means more control over their identity, fewer hassles, and a smoother experience. Indeed, such steps help turn Aadhaar from a physical card into a flexible, digital identity — boosting convenience, trust and adoption for all citizens.
